It’s important to blend both qualitative and quantitative information in order to determine the best selection. Additionally, no sole criteria gets all the weight. That's why the All-Star system was created. S = Show Results: we want to see placement in halter and fleece with composite being a nice bonus. Show placing is inconsistent, hence why our system was created, so this is included mostly to get a third party viewpoint on confirmation and fleece characteristics. This provides us some directional information as well as helps us eliminate any males with definite breed flaw. T = Technical Results: we want to see multiple year results for micron, SD, COV, curvature, staple, comfort factor, S/P ratio and follicle density. A = Ancestry: there’s no doubt about it but certain bloodlines are the elite producers and that is true of all livestock. We want to see multiple generations of quality thus increasing preferred trait potency. R = Reproduces Traits: Can the animal reproduce their traits. EPDs will help measure this on the fleece statistic side but of course EPDs do not cover non-fleece traits like conformation, health, density, etc. Put the All-Star system to work on your herd. |
